DJI Mavic 3: Here’s the drone community inclination list, what’d we miss? - DroneDJ
Wide-ranging shutter A big feature that many have requested is the inclusion of global mechanical shutter instead of the rolling shutter found on the Mavic 2 series. Pandemic shutter means each pixel on the image sensor is exposed to the light at the same time, instead of a line of pixels at a measure with a rolling shutter. This would eliminate distortion, such as bent shapes, that rolling shutter causes. The only issue that can be seen with DJI adding wide-ranging shutter to the Mavic 3 is that it might cannibalize sales of the Phantom 4. The latter has global shutter, and the Phantom series has always been DJI’s top-of-the-line prosumer drone, with the Mavic series being just underneath it. No subsampling When the DJI Mavic 2 Pro head released, subsampling was a largely talked about topic, with many arguments for and against DJI using it. Subsampling was used to reduce the amount of text to be processed by skipping multiple pixels. Removable camera and gimbal A highly requested feature is a purchaser-removable gimbal system, allowing you to switch out cameras. (The current Mavic 2 comes in two different models, the Pro and Zoom, depending on the camera. ) Having removable consumer gimbals would mean you can quickly change out camera modules when wanting a specific look. Another benefit: Crashes that bring the gimbal and camera would be a cheaper repair that might not require a DJI technician. Larger aperture Including a larger-space lens (with a lower f-number) on the Mavic 3 would allow for better low-light performance. It would also produce some impressive results when in use accustomed to alongside a larger 1-inch sensor camera. The larger aperture would yield a shallower depth of acreage. This isn’t noticeable when flying high above, but it would create a cool blurred background effect when flying concealed to a subject. Take a look at the rest of our Mavic 3 coverage:. Autel's Lawsuit Against DJI: DJI Attorneys Say Action Unlikely to Affect US Sales - DroneLife
In premature March, the Chief Administrative Law Judge of the ITC issued a favorable initial determination for DJI, saying that the some patents “were not infringed, were not practiced by any steward industry product, were anticipated or rendered obvious by prior art, and were directed to an abstract idea and therefore invalid under 35 U. S. C. § 101, ” and that other claims were either ill or represented “unpatentable” ideas. Finnegan says that the Patent Trial and Appeals Board (PTAB) have also sided with DJI: “On May 13, 2020, the PTAB declared all the claims of the ’174 certificate of invention unpatentable. On May 14, 2020, the PTAB found the asserted ’013 patent claims unpatentable,” says Finnegan. “Then, on May 21, 2020, the PTAB found all challenged claims of the ’184 franchise unpatentable, delivering DJI yet another win. While the Chief Administrative Law Judge of the ITC appears to have changed their initial decision, that decision has not been confirmed by the whole Commission. Additionally, while Autel has asked for sales of the drones to be banned in the U. S. , Finnegan says such a ban is distasteful to be enacted. “The Commission is currently deciding whether to review the [Chief Administrator Law Judge’s] ID. Ultimately the Commission may commit oneself to that Autel deserves no remedy at all, but at a minimum, the Commission is unlikely to enforce any exclusion order or cease-and-desist fellowship based on the three invalid patents. DJI’s sales in the U. S. , therefore, will not be affected by Autel’s claims,” says Finnegan. Source: DroneLife
DJI scores win against Autel in latest apparent dispute round - DroneDJ
Now DJI’s law obstinate, Finnegan, is reporting several wins in the latest round. The key issue in the past week has been Autel’s U. S. Patent No. 9,260,184. This covers the fondness of rotors to the drone as well as how the arms supporting the rotors fold up against the drone body. Last week saw a triumph in the U. S. International Trade Commission (ITC) for Autel on the ‘184 patent on the rotors. The Chief Administrative Law Judge ruled that DJI had violated the plain and ordered a ban on the importation into the US of several DJI drones violating the patent: the Mavic Pro, Mavic Pro Platinum, Mavic 2 Pro, Mavic 2 Zoom, Mavic Air, and Hint. The Mavic 2 drone bans would hurt the most, as those are still current models (until the Mavic 3 arrives this year). Autel also filed a signal to get DJI’s Phantom and Inspire series of drones excluded from import as well. Finnegan took the case to the Patent Exploratory and Appeals Board. Yesterday the board ruled that the technology in patent ‘184 is in fact not patentable. This capped a week of rulings from the timber in DJI’s favor. It also ruled as unpatentable two other Autel patents:. 7,979,174 covering obstacle avoidance tech U. S.
