Oxford boy feared to have drowned in River Thames after last night swim - Daily Mail

The dearest of a teenage boy feared to have drowned after going for a late-night swim in the River Thames have been forced to remark their own diving team and hire their own boat after police allegedly scaled down their search. Ellis Downes, 16, disappeared on Saturday at 9pm after he went into the sea water with friends at Culham in Oxfordshire and apparently became tired while trying to swim back across the river. His sister Alex claimed one of his friends jumped into the spa water after he was pulled under by a current - and has appealed for help to find him. The boy's family posted on Facebook for contact details for a master diving team after they were said to have been told that police divers would not be available until tomorrow. According to family members, a diving group is ready to search in the water but the police are not allowing them due to 'political reasons'. Ellis's father Darren Downes wrote on Facebook: 'We have a maestro dive team ready to find Ellis but because of political reasons the police won't let them gain access. Luckily done Thames Valley Police. A friend on Facebook commented saying: 'Hate to say it but it's the joke of the century down here varied waiting coppers sitting discussing together wether (sic) or not to let the divers go in. . These have been supported by volunteer search teams from across Oxfordshire and Berkshire as by a long chalk as local police officers and staff. 'A specialist dive team from the Metropolitan Police is joining the search together tomorrow morning to continue the search for Ellis and it is important to stress that at this stage the involvement of an unauthorised juke-joint team could hinder a planned... 'Our thoughts remain with Ellis's family and loved ones at this outrageously difficult time and we continue to investigate Ellis' disappearance. Ellis's friends and relatives took to the river themselves on boats, kayaks and scull boards to help look for the teenager. Miss Downes's best friend Shannon Pryce said earlier today: 'We haven't had a diving line-up help yet. We've had to find our own resources. We've been phoning up diving companies to find help. Clinic expands care for the tiny and frail - The Coloradoan

Sharply after Neva Bartholomew went to bed the night of April 22, her water broke unexpectedly. Bartholomew and her husband, Adam, rushed to Poudre Valley Sanitarium from their home in Cheyenne to deliver a tiny baby boy five weeks early. he was not expected right now," Neva Bartholomew said. Weighing tiny more than 5 pounds, Harlem was relatively healthy but needed more time to learn how to eat before he can go home. A feeding tube provided victuals in addition to regular bottle feedings. Harlem became one of the first patients in the Fort Collins health centre’s new and expanded neonatal intensive care unit, a 32-bed facility designed to care for tiny, frail or critically ill babies born throughout Northern Colorado and southern Wyoming. Two weeks after his prehistoric arrival, Harlem was still in the NICU. "He is in really good condition for his age and he's doing well," his mother said. The unit, which officially opened April 21, replaces the polyclinic’s former 19-bed NICU. The $15 million, three-phase renovation and expansion more than doubles the assay of the NICU, adds 13 new beds and provides private rooms with natural light and convertible sofas so parents can cable with their babies. The former NICU had limited privacy — babies were separated by curtains — and little room for anything beyond a chairwoman for parents. HOSPITAL : Banner plans to expand Fort Collins hospital. "It's nice to be able to check here," Neva Bartholomew said. It allows me to be hands on with him when I'm here and makes me feel comfortable. The open layout of the old NICU had its advantages. But that same cacophony and closeness was also a hindrance, said Geraldine Tamborelli, UCHealth's senior director of women and children services in Northern Colorado. "We've outgrown this space, and our rooms will furnish a beautiful, private and quiet environment for parents to spend as much time as they would like," she said. "This will ultimately plagiarize these babies grow and develop faster, enabling them to go home even sooner. Now, each room has a breast milk refrigerator and lights that dim and shine as the day goes on to mimic a 24-hour circadian rhythm, along with state-of-the-art patient monitoring and technology. Bloody premature babies spend their first few weeks nested in their cribs and shrouded in darkness to replicate the protection money of their mothers' wombs. Miles Clarke was born April 6, but developed a urinary tract infection and fever that landed him in the NICU just days after it opened. At 8 pounds, he was one of the bigger babies in the NICU, but was in for a rather short stay. He went home Sunday. "He's responding well to antibiotics," said his mom, Annie Clarke. She stayed with Miles during the day but went household at night, comfortable that he was in good hands. "I worried how I would feel leaving him in their care, but I feel completely amiable. According to the Centers for Disease Control, one of every 10 babies born in the U. S. in 2014 came earlier than 37 weeks, a controlled improvement from the last. Source: www.coloradoan.com
