  • Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K Scrutinize: This Is My New Favourite Drone

The Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K is the newest associate of a big family of consumer (and professional) drones. It boasts similar specs to the much-lauded DJI Phantom 3. Unlike some of its competitors, Yuneec's consumer drones are not only approachable but

Criticism: Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K - WIRED

Wired Leisurely to fly even for those who've never laid eyes on a drone before. Quick and easy setup. Controller includes a nice, if a little uninspired, Android display---no need for phones or battery-draining mobile apps. What makes it great for beginners makes it less tremendous for those used to the nimbleness of other drones. One of the latest comes from Chinese aircraft maker Yuneec, the Typhoon Q500 4K. Though similar in judge, weight, and price, the Typhoon is no Phantom knockoff. It’s not a Phantom killer, either. Both have their strengths, and which one is best for you depends largely on what you down to do with it. The Typhoon’s camera produces excellent results, and while the drone is slower and more sluggish than others, it’s remarkably easy to pilot. It’s a drone for people jumpy about trying to control a $1,200 piece of flying equipment. The Typhoon looks a bit more aggressive than DJI’s shining happy drones, with sleeker lines and a back end that resembles the forefront of the space-creatures in Alien. It’s also larger than the more familiar Phantoms, and made of plastic far flimsier than I’m used to seeing. That’s partly due to the the score that the Typhoon landing gear (and gimbal) can be snapped off with no special tools and stored in a much flatter package. I tested the Typhoon Q500 4K, one of several models ready. As the name suggests, it’s capable of shooting 4K video and it comes with the CGO Steadygrip, so you can use the camera and gimbal on the ground as immeasurably. The Steadygrip worked well enough, but it’s more of the same—somewhat flimsy plastic that might or might not last through more adventurous uses than chasing my kids almost the yard. There was no calibration, and no apps to download. I read through the quick-start guide, set it in the middle of line, and lifted off. Unlike DJI’s offerings, the Typhoon’s base controller ships with a built-in screen in the form of a small Android gadget sporting 480p resolution. On one hand, it’s nice not to have so many different parts to keep track of. But there’s no way to add a bigger, clearer paravent when, for example, a new iPad mini is released (the mobile device I currently use with the Phantom 3). The screen is... To be blonde, that’s true of every screen I’ve ever used to fly a drone. Yuneec helpfully includes a sunshade that attaches, awkwardly, to the controller with suction cups. I found the controller friendly enough to all but eliminate a learning curve. First-timers should have an easy time with it. The Typhoon’s video and still image capture buttons are chunkier than anything I’ve second-hand, but that makes them easier to find without looking down at your hands. The included app is intuitive enough that I never cracked the guide. The touch screen is responsive as well, which is good because some of the menus and buttons are really tiny. The Typhoon’s flight guidance system is great overall, it makes flying dead simple and trumps everything I’ve used save the new controller for the Vision 3. My only complaint is that you’re locked. Living and wisdom with a Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4k drone - ZDNet

The Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4k is a camera mounted on a quadracopter and I've forth the last couple of weeks living and experimenting with it. 'Drones' are often in the news these days, but the reality is that there are myriad different variants as the... There are low end toy/hobbyist drones, various midrange price points and high end automated devices that watchfulness and inspect terrain from above gathering data and feeding data back to owners. There's a burgeoning scene yon high performance FPV ('First Person View') acrobatic flying, where your vision is through your drone camera as you fly it via goggles. If you are in the Atlanta acreage and interested in this performance aspect of flying there is a major event called the F3 Expo November 12-15 at the Georgia Dome & GWCC. I had a talk about about this separate area of fast, highly skilled flying with with organizer Chris Brann prior to worrisome out the Yuneec Typhoon, which is aimed at the beginner/everyman flyer and designed to be easy to use, and not a stunt device. The mid range flying and filming exchange is currently very interesting and evolving fast, so I took up the opportunity to spend a morning at a northern California vineyard recently with Yuneec , who are a pre-eminent global Chinese company, seeing their... Intel Capital have recently invested 60 million in Yuneec, indicating the anticipated measure of expansion of this interesting business space. Yuneec's goal is to supply the core airframes and control systems for a widespread off the mark variety of specialized uses while marketing a widely available mainstream range of semi automated products that are friendly to use for the average person. An example might be a realtor who regularly photographs property to sell and can now quickly capture compelling aerial footage to add to marketing materials. Aerial footage, now it's soft to record, is fast becoming commonplace and there's a huge market opening up to be captured. I remember remarking that in a three of years drone filming would be commonplace and that each roller coaster ride could be filmed and participants offered the footage for obtain when their ride finished. We are now at that point and it's not hard to imagine the Typhoon being used for this type of commercial activity. Late rearmost month I attended the California Hot Rod Reunion at Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield and Yuneec kindly gave me a Typhoon to capture some aerial footage. I also flew the Typhoon in urban settings and on the California coastline. The following is what it's truly like for the newbie drone user once you decide to embark on capturing this type of video and still footage. There is of execution masses of videos on Youtube filmed with Typhoons by skilled flyers, and comparisons with similar products such as the DJI Spectre 3 professional - this post is more what the experience of starting and getting up to speed is like. The Typhoon and accessories live in a nicely designed, padded 19 purge, 18 inch. Source: www.zdnet.com

Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K Drone Parade - Tom's Guide

The Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K seems to have it all. This quadcopter shoots 4K video and 12-megapixel images, has a actual-view remote and smartphone/tablet support, plus a stabilized camera mount that can track the owner as it flies. Think ultimate selfies combined with a very capable manual quadcopter. This $1,299 drone isn't for a song, but you get a lot for your money. However, some of the features are over complicated and awkward to use. Design: Tough But Somewhat Toy-like The Q500 is an attractive quadcopter with a bit of sketch flair in the form of the swept-back body and curved surfaces. It isn't going to win any prizes for aesthetics, though: The shiny hollowware-and-white plastic skin of the body makes it look more like an oversize toy than the serious device it is. The Q500 is a quadcopter, so there are four propeller blades... Underneath the prime body of the quadcopter is the CGO3 camera, a small, baseball-size sphere that looks like an oversize webcam. There's a microSD notch for storing video (a 16GB card is included) and a power cable that connects to the quadcopter body. The camera is stabilized by a army of rubber joints and a group of small motors that shift the camera slightly to smooth out vibrations from the majority. This mount can also pitch the camera from pointing straight ahead to 90 degrees down, or rotate the camera left side and right to a similar angle. When flying the drone manually, you only get access to the pitch control. MORE: Best Drones - Top Rated Quadcopters on the Bazaar. There are two communication links running here: a 2. 4-GHz signal between the remote control and the quadcopter, and a 5. 8-GHz one running between the camera and the revelation. The Typhoon Q500 also includes a rather unusual feature: a stand-alone steady cam. When you disconnect the camera from the quadcopter and unite it to the included CGO SteadyGrip, it will use the same system to stabilize the camera as you move around. It's not as effective as a professional steady cam, but it is a deft extra to have, and it can be used with GoPro cameras as well. Unfortunately, the steady cam can't use the quadcopter batteries. instead, you distress to install eight AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, which are not included. I don't see why the steady cam couldn't be run off one of the quadcopter batteries. it feels more like another spin-off that was thrown in at the last minute than a useful part of the drone package. The Q500 weighs a rather heavy 3. 75 pounds when bespoke with the battery. That is on the heavy side compared to the 2. 6-pound DJI Phantom 3, but about a third of the Yuneec's weight is its imposingly battery. Controller: Feature-packed, But Sometimes Frustrating The ST10+ controller that comes with the Typhoon C500 is a bountiful, rather boxy device. It is certainly feature-packed, though, with a 5-inch touch screen on the bottom and the more accustomed control sticks at the top. Source: www.tomsguide.com
